Salt Print
ImageSony Pictures’ summer blockbuster 'Salt' was recently mixed on a Harrison MPC4-D at Sony's Kim Novak Theater.

Angelina Jolie stars as a spy-on-the-run in this character-driven action thriller. Mix Online has an article featuring the mixers with the Harrison MPC4-D.

The complex and difficult effects were mixed by Greg Russell, who commented: "The Harrison MPC-4D is an amazing console. For SALT, I wanted the FX's to be Fat, Punchy and Tight. Harrison’s  fully automated Sub-Harmonic plugin was the difference! The parameters can be automated for a wide variety of treatments.  And the Sub-Harmonic tool is but one of the great features  in the Digital Film Tools package.  Another standout tool is the the fully automated 4-Band Compressors,  which are BRILLANT!" Greg continues: "Mixing large sound effects driven films constantly pushes the envelope to what a console is capable of, and the Harrison MPC-4D in my opinion is simply untouchable."

Greg, a veteran FX mixer with 13 Oscar nominations, mixed the film along with Jeff Haboush (dialog) and Scott Millan (music).  For a behind-the-scenes view of the mixers working on the MPC4-D console, visit http://soundworkscollection.com/salt_sound.

The Kim Novak MPC4-D (one of 9 Harrison large-format consoles at Sony) has a high resolution TFT meter bridge with Harrison's patented  ESP
Waveforms above each channel and Harrison's "Digital Film Tools" package (Harrison’s fully automated “in console” plugins designed and written
specifically for film mixing).

Paul Massey installs Harrison TRION Print

Paul Massey, one of Hollywood’s top re-recording mixers, has installed a Harrison TRION in his private studio complex located north of Los Angeles in Ojai, California.

Paul's impressive recent credit list includes ‘This Is It’, ‘X-Men Wolverine’, ‘Star Trek’, ‘The Taking of Pelham 123’ and ‘It’s Complicated’ along with a long list of upcoming projects including ‘Robin Hood’.  Paul made the decision in early 2009 to outfit a private predub studio for streamlining his workflow.

“Making the console choice for the new studio was very involved,” says Massey, “but after evaluating the Harrison TRION it made the decision much easier. This console offers so many artistic and technical advantages such as 64bit processing throughout, musical and precise EQ and Dynamics processing, specialized Xtools processing specifically designed for film work, and probably most notably Harrison’s incredible TFT displays with the patented Waveform / History metering and full featured processing and routing overview. This console gives me everything I’m looking for and much more. It’s configured with plenty of faders and channel processing so I can work on the most demanding dialogue and music predubs, or take projects to completion through the final mix. ”

“All of us at Harrison are very excited to be working closely with Paul on this project" stated Gary Thielman from Harrison. "He is obviously one of the premier mixers in the world and having access to his expertise and support will be extremely valuable to us as we take our vast film console technology into the future”.

The console, along with 3 supporting ProTools HD systems, was installed by AID of California.  The TRION console configuration includes 32 full-featured channel strips with TFT waveform displays and 128 channels of processing ( each with 8-band EQ+filters, compressor, gate, 2 patch points, 16-wide panning, and 96 busses )   The console also includes Harrison's complete Xtools processing package including Camera Noise Filter, 2 and 6 Band DeNoisers, DeEsser, Multiband Compressor and Expanders, Sub Harmonic Generator, Telephone Simulator, Buzz Kill line noise filter, Cross EQ and 32 Soft Clipping Bus Limiters.  Harrison film consoles provide a full-featured Film Monitoring system with Pec/Direct paddles, and recorder controls including track arming and transport.
